The Philippines is losing up to 140,000 hectares of forest every year. Our forest cover is shrinking at a rapid rate of 2.1% annually, the fastest rate loss in Asia. In the 1990’s, we still had 27 million hectares of forest, but by the year 2000, our forest cover had shrunk to a negligible 800,000 hectares. The denudation is alarming and with global warming threatening our planet, we need to take swift and decisive actions.
This is the mission and goal of the PAG-ASA NG BUHAY ASSOCATION, INC. (PNB). With a volunteer base of private individuals, we are restoring, rehabilitating, and preserving our natural resources for ourselves, for each other and for our children.
The PAG-ASA NG BUHAY ASSOCIATION, INC. with SEC REG No. DN-092-000430, is a non-stock and non-profit organization whose main thrust is to restore and rehabilitate, beautify and preserve our God-given environment and natural resources.
On its 21st year of operation, the association has worked increasingly in the restoration of our environment and have helped the victims of natural calamities nationwide. Moreover, we have planted over 1,000,000 trees, conducted hundreds of clean-up drives and have joined the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in its Green Philippines Highway Program. As one of the adopters in DENR’s trees for life project, we have pledged to help plant 20,000,000 trees in denuded watersheds in the country. PNB has adopted parks like the famous Wright Park in Baguio City, reforested watershed like Angat Dam in Norzagaray, the Magat Dam in Isabela and many others.
Our projects involve millions of pesos for its continuing implementation and we are knocking on your hearts to join us in this enormous endeavor. We believe that if we work hand in hand, this noble purpose of rebuilding a better world to live in would be realized.
